My reading taste has changed and I am more picky with what I read... Here is my reading goal so far:

goodreads goal 2024

I have really been enjoying my re-listens. But I am trying to read more with my eyeballs and more new books, that is, new to me. LOL. I have many unread books on my shelves and many unlistened audiobooks.

I had to DNF a few...

If you want to follow me on goodreads, here is my profile:

cindarella

I have read a little in Swedish lately, and I am trying to find some book in Finnish that I own that I would enjoy reading.. That is difficult. I don't own a lot of books in Finnish. Despite the fact that I studied it for years at the University of Stockholm. LOL.

More later! :)
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-44151243592944136842024-02-17T21:31:00.000-08:002024-02-17T21:31:53.284-08:00Start of the reading year 2024
Good morning from Finland!

The reading year has started pretty well. I have listened to so many audiobooks. I am content, even though most of them are rereads/re-listens. I have managed to dnf a book but then I might give it another chance later. It is "A house of special purpose" by John Boyne. I got so upset when the author made up a city/town in Finland that I stopped very abruptly reading it and almost threw it away in disgust... But I think I will give it another shot.

In case someone wants to be my friend on goodreads, here is my profile:

https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/9024548-cindarella

I have a lot of books on my TBR but right now I am rereading too much.

My goal is to read more with my eyeballs, and especially new to me books. Wish me luck!

I have listened to 10 books so far this year and dnfd the book by John Boyne and plan to pick it up again soon... I started two very intimidating books yesterday:

Leo Tolstoy: Anna Karenina and War and peace.

Those are two very chunky books :)

"I love big books and I cannot lie!" is my motto after all :D

More later!
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-3390479722703031222024-01-17T02:37:00.000-08:002024-01-17T02:37:24.236-08:00The Helmet reading challenge 2024
The Helmet Reading Challenge 2024

1. I couldn't concentrate a lot. Then, I also had problems during the whole year which book to read and where to read plus which position. My back has been worse and my legs are hurting a lot and also my hips. SO. Imagine trying to choose the book, choose the place to read and choose to find which way you sit so the back doesn't get worse. I know, those shouldn't be problems. But yet, here I am, finding weird problems. :D

This year one evening I listened to the entire (short) book by Jean-Dominique Bauby: The diving-bell and the butterfly. I know it almost by heart and I listen or read it almost always every year nowadays. It is SO good, sad and touching. Makes you think. Or: "Do a think" as I sometimes say/think and obviously also write, as I just did HAHHHAH! :D Excuse me, I am in a humorous mood... Yeah. Sunlight can do that. (The sun is shining here today...)

I am so happy with my ONE book read in 2024-acheivment so far hahhah. My goal is 84+ books in 2024. My goal is on Goodreads:

goal for 2024

I love reading challenges as many of you know, if you like this blog. Even if you don't, I bet I have mentioned it plenty of times hahhah. I never ever manage to complete my more elaborate reading challemnges and it makes me sad, but each year at the end I realise, I couldn't have stuck to a certain TBR or such. So I forgive myself each year and try or change my tactics or something. :D This year will be no different, I think. I will just try to avoid many and long reading slumps. Wish me luck! :)

Here is another lovely challenge:

Helmet-reading challenge 2024

IF I decided to take it on, I will post my TBR here :)

I have also last year watched a lot more youtube than earlier and listened more to the radio. I also knitted a lot. Three scarves (the last one is almost done soon). I should have listened to more audibooks while knitting, maybe I should try that more this year... I love music, it is very important to me. I think I need new and better lists on Spotify to follow and listen to while reading. I can make a few new ones myself too.

I have been out in the world a lot more last year. My new friends pulled me out of my coma... (Not a real coma, just my feelings of depression and anxiety etc). Music, youtube and knitting also pull me out of my mental slump of anxiety.

Good luck with all of your reading years! :)

More later.

Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-77320941802475557262023-08-09T16:08:00.002-07:002023-08-09T16:11:10.594-07:00Hi! :) reading slumps sucks...

Hello hello! :)

I have been in a severe reading slump since February... I visited my parents in July and read a few really short books and DNF'd a few too... I have read the first book, the pink one in Finnish, three times this year as an audiobook, I like it so much! And I am currently reading many books but focusing a lot on "the girl who played with fire" by Stieg Larsson (reading it in my native tongue of Swedish) and "one day" by David Nicholls. :) they are pretty okay.

I am trying to catch up on my Reading challenge on goodreads. I have started marking DNF's as read because I need revenge because they wasted my time... lol. I know, I am a bit weird. :D I just can't with some books and then get angry at them for being bad.

here is my goodreads challenge:

https://www.goodreads.com/user_challenges/39099137

I am currently sprinting with Jordaline from Canada, a booktuber on youtube... Audiobook on Bookbeat.

*Under the whispering door* by TJ Klune is a re-listen and one of my favorite soft fantasy books. I listened to it twice in 2021. This book is like a warm hug. It's about grief, death and sorrow. It's one of the few books that has made me shed tears in the recent years. There are some triggering parts, in which case you might want to google some spoiler free reviews, just in case. Wallace is dead and he is brought to a Tea shop by a reaper and is waiting to cross over to the other side. Wallace was a bit of a butthole in life and in death he becomes a little or a lot better. The nice people who are at the Tea shop help him to learn and grow. This book is very heart-warming and cozy. If you are open minded and up to reading wonderful stories about tragic and beautiful life stories, I really recommend this book. 4/5 stars. Not five stars because it was a little dragging in some parts in my humble opinion.

*Ratkaisuja läskeille* by Raisa Omaheimo. Freely translated: *Solutions for fatsos*. This book was such a good one. I would want all of my friends who have ever been on a diet or told someone else to go on a diet, or has had any problems with being overweight etc. to read this amazing book! I saw red and got really wound up by this book. It made me sad, mad and proud at the same time. It is a book with kind of experiences and facts and opinions that I have been thinking for years and some I just realizerd I should have been thinking and voicing. It is not a problem to be fat. It's not something wrong with you if you are overweight. If you have a problem with fat people, it's your problem, not the fat person's problem. You need to rethink dieting, weight-loss, BMI and healthy and unhealthy views of your own weight. I think this book is simply brilliant. After I read it, (aka listened to it in one sitting), I wrote a little note in Finnish to myself that said: I am a fat activitst. I do not support fatphobia or fat hate. This was such a powerful experience for me. I cried a little. This lady, the author, really knew all the struggles. I will recommend it to EVERYONE. 5/5 stars

That's it for the first two books :) My goal is to read 88 books in 2023 and to write a review of each and every one! Wish me luck! :)

Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-60310139392160375792022-12-12T20:27:00.000-08:002022-12-12T20:27:00.717-08:00New books :)
Good morning everyone!

How's it going? I'm doing really well :)

I have read 82 books this year so far and my goal I have lowered to 88 books for this year on goodreads. I am one book behind schedule... But I think I will make it. Just six more books to go. This year I have re-read and re-listened to some familiar books, my comfort reads. Next year my goal is to re-read some series only ONE TIME. It will be tough but it is okay. I have also decided to listen and read to most my books that I have as audiobooks and a physical copy of, also a few books I don't have a audiobook of.

I had my bookshop-card almost full this fall and bought the last book that was required and got one FREE! I love this system they have lol. I bought Daisy Jones and the six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Ninth house by Leigh Bardugo. I have Daisy Jones also on audible, so that's going on my list for 2023. I am trying to read the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising before I dive into Daisy Jones and the six.

I started Evelyn Hugo but got stuck as usual... I will try to jump back into it asap.

I started Bird box by Josh Malerman and it's good. I have it both as a paperback and on audible :) I love reading & listening, it is like a movie in my head. It's really nice. I love audiobooks... I have a few that I don't own as physical copies but sometimes I just enjoy listening.

More later!

Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-16521186604305317502022-10-20T21:30:00.002-07:002022-10-20T21:30:27.929-07:00Reading challenge update and more! :)
Dear followers,

Whenever I fall into a reading slump, I have a few audio books that are short and familiar that I love to re-listen to... I love audio books and it is a lot easier to get out of the slump by listening to something familiar. Now that I am almost caught up on my reading goal of 2022 I can start reading more with my eyeballs and even bigger books. I love big books and I cannot lie lol.

I feel like I don't have to read all the REALLY chunky ones right this moment but I can start them and read a few that are longer than some of the audio books I have been listening to. I must say, I feel like I am re-reading far too much lol. I will try to challenge myself more next year. I can't stick to a TBR, I am a mood reader :D

Some of the books that I love re-listening to are the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling and the Twilight books by Stephenie Meyer. They are my comfort listens :) But enough is enough lol. I will try to re-listen to them a little less frequently... I do have over 100-200 unread books at home. I used to hoard a lot of books, I was afraid of running out of things to read :D

I can start planning a preliminary TBR but it will probably change many times next year lol.

Some of the books I want to read or re-read next year are (also some that I have started already):

East of Eden by John Steinbeck

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

Jerusalem by Selma Lagerlöf

Putkinotko by Joel Lehtonen

Sinuhe egyptiläinen by Mika Waltari

Utvandrarna by Wilhelm Moberg

those are some of the classics on my TBR. I have read Putkinotko and Sinuhe earlier...

I am a trilingual person so I love reading in three languages: Swedish, Finnish and English :)

I also want to re-read some of my all-time favorite books... Which include:

The book thief by Markus Zuzak

The thirrteenth tale by Diane Setterfield

The Ruby Slippers by Keir Alexander

The weight of silence by Heather Gudenkauf

Philomena by Martin Sixsmith

More later! :)

Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-25753265889456314062022-08-15T21:41:00.004-07:002022-08-15T21:41:57.711-07:00Reading update August 2022
Good morning from Finland! :)

How's it going? I have good news! I am only eight books behind schedule and have read 53 books this year so far... I can live with that lol. I have been in a reading slump for a few months. Audiobooks have helped me a lot. Without those I could not read so much. They help me out of slumps and they go by pretty fast. I usually listen to audiobooks at the speed of 2.2 or if it's a new narrator and/or an unfamiliar story I listen to them at 1.5-2.0 speed.

I need to go read soon. I have decided to get out of this slump :D

More later! :)

Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-77999998553068442012022-06-17T22:39:00.002-07:002022-06-17T22:39:42.656-07:00Books in the morning :)
Hello again!

My reading slump continues... It is giving me the blues. I will try to find the power to power through this lol. I am listening almost daily if not daily to some audiobooks but they are not fulfilling my need to read. lol. I need to maybe try a chapter in some of my new books and also just bite the bullet and continue some books that I have a hard time continuing with...

I might need a quick and easy, short read. A YA contemporary might do the trick. Too much fantasy going on lately, especially high adult fantasy. I have started Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight archive from the beginning because I got them as new hardcovers and I have most of them as audiobooks.

Now I put on some reading music, hopefully it will help me get in the mood. I also have a hard time finding a comfortable position in which to read. I know - how hard can it be? lol. I have a bad back and other issues so it takes time to find a good position.

I will let you know how it goes! :)

Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-26890470853092992772022-06-16T21:01:00.001-07:002022-06-16T21:01:14.533-07:00Reading update - June 17th :D
Hello there dear reader!

How are you doing? I am doing just fine and dandy, thank you very much :)

I love reading but I am often in a reading slump and have a long break between reading anything... I have been listening to audiobooks mostly lately. I love long and short audiobooks, I don't have any preferences. I listen mostly in English because audible has a lot of books in English and same with Scribd. I would have to subsribe to a third service if I want to listen to audiobooks in Swedish and Finnish... And those apps with Finnish and Swedish audiobooks have very poor English selection of books. It sucks.

I have read and listened to 42 books this year so far, I am 3 books behind schedule. My new goal is to read and listen to 101 books in 2022... I have been in a horrible slump. I just cannot get into the reading mood. It is tough.

I hope to remedy this problem with new books lol that I have bought recently. :)

I have found two awesome booktubers. I will tell you all about them later.

I love Discord app, I am in many reading related servers there. It makes me happy. We have buddy reads and book club reads each month in one group. I hang around there mostly, because I have found many new nice friends there. <3

More later! :)

Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-36567969513029517222022-06-16T06:33:00.002-07:002022-06-16T06:33:27.857-07:00New books and try a chapter Challenge?

Books Books Books

Hello there my friends!

I have been buying a few new books. I read 9 books in January and so far in February I have read 8 books. For some reason February is often a very good reading month for me. I read a lot often in February. I love big books and I cannot lie, is my motto and it often puts me in a slump and often makes me a slow reader, because longer books and longer HAHA and take more time to finish :D I know, I am very funny...

This was a short update, will write more soon.

Take care! This is my TBR for my own challenge but there might be changes :)
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-74059514320233513652022-02-04T00:10:00.003-08:002022-02-04T00:10:30.441-08:00Books are better than people :D
Good morning from Finland! :)

I have been in a semi-slump, which is nothing new. I am very often in a reading slump... I am just worried I am getting too behind on my reading challenge. I need to sharpen up and focus! Wish me luck! I can make it, I just need to continue and not give up.

I have read and listened to 10 books this year so far. It is pretty good. I have so many books that I am currently reading and listening to. I love being a poly-reader lol :D I could never only read one at a time... Here are a few books I am currently reading:¨

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling (re-read)

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (re-read)

City on fire by Garth Risk Hallberg

Anne på Grönkulla by LM Montgomery (re-read) (Anne of Green Gables in Swedish)

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

I am participating in the Helmet -reading challenge but I need to try to figure out which books can fit into which category on the list. There are 50 different prompts and I will try to read one book per prompt, not combine them.

I have a problem with reading: I really love BIG books :D I need to start reading fewer big books so it will be easier to finish my goals. It is a struggle... Audiobooks help a lot. Even the biggest books can be read and listened to with the help of the audiobook.

More later! :)
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-31680774470804848142022-01-23T07:38:00.002-08:002022-01-23T07:38:44.018-08:00Reading habits in 2022. So far so good.
Hello there!

This year has started pretty well. I have read and/or listened to seven books this year so far. My goal is 164. If I fall off the wagon early on (or later), my goal is to read 123 books. If this seems too difficult, my lowest goal is to read 101 books in 2022. :)

According to GoodReads I am 2 books behind schedule... Oopsie!

In 2020 I read 41 books, in 2021 I read 82 books... This year I'm happy if I reach at least 83 but my ultimate goals are as stated above. Here is a link to my GoodReads, in case you want to check it out:

https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/9024548-cindarella

You may add me as a friend too, or just follow me :)

I have noticed how easy it is to listen to audiobooks in the evening, before I fall asleep. It is so nice. I usually listen to Harry Potter. Sometimes I listen to Twilight because these two series are very familiar, I do not miss out if I miss a word here or there, I know them by heart.

What are some of your "comfort reads"? :)

I am looking for new comfort reads and comfort audiobooks. I am thinking of including Lord of the rings to the list (once I finish them) and maybe The hunger games and Divergent... Hmm. I only own the first book in each of those series as audiobooks, so I will have to wait for my audible credits to arrive. :D

I love big books and I cannot lie. That is my motto. :)

More later!
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-88195403369819111392022-01-09T03:05:00.005-08:002022-01-09T03:07:02.395-08:00How many books will you read before you die? 🤔
Hi there!

I'm 42 this year. I have not read all the books I wish I had read at this point in my life, but I have sped up my reading remarkably these last few years. In 2020 I read 41 books, in 2021 I read 82 books. Before 2020 I hardly ever read more than 20 books in a year. Last year I really overdid myself and audio books helped me a lot. Here is an interesting article about how many books we can be expected to read.

https://www.bustle.com/p/how-many-books-will-you-read-before-you-die-the-answer-might-surprise-you-47118

I'm soon 42, I usually read 40+ books at least, I would say but if I speed things up or keep the pace of last year, 80+ books a year, I hope I might be closer to reading all the books I own that I have not read or that I want to reread. There are over 100-200 books on my shelves that I have not read yet.

Hope your reading year goes well. I've finished 5 audio books so far this year. Wish me luck!

Hugs from Finland 🇫🇮
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-88752079222517694642021-12-29T02:15:00.004-08:002021-12-29T02:25:05.819-08:00HELMET -reading challenge 2022
Hello!

Here is a new reading challenge for 2022 that was published a few minutes ago:

The Helmet Reading Challenge 2022 | Helmet
<h2 style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 30px; font-weight: 500; line-height: 1.1; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px;">The Helmet Reading Challenge 2022
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1.5em;">1. I have read 80 books in 2021!!! WOW! A new all-time record! :) ...and the year is not over yet, I might still read a little more. My goal was 80 books on GoodReads, so I made it for once. It feels great. I have been thinking of making my own reading challenge for 2022. You may join me in the challenge if you want. I was thinking of writing prompts, a kind of list of the kind of books I want to read. Here it is:

1. a really big book (like huge in size, not thick)

2. a really small book (not just with a few pages but tiny in size)

3. Two books in a series

4. a fantasy stand-alone

5. a book written originally in another language than your mother tongue

6. a book written in verse

7. a classic

8. a chick-lit book

9. a YA book

10. a book written in your mother tongue (if you have two mother tongues like me, you can choose which one or do both)¨

Let's start off with this list. :) 10 is a nice even number...

Good luck! I will soon take pictures of the books I will choose for each prompt.

Have fun! Hugs from Cindy
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-76847358992637027972021-10-23T08:24:00.002-07:002021-10-23T08:24:33.271-07:00Dewey's Readathon Update...Hello there!

So, it's not going great but it's going okay. I have started two books:

"Den amerikanska flickan" by Monica Fagerholm (a Swedish speaking Finn)

"Kätilö" by Katja Kettu (a Finn)

I have been listening to music, drinking pepsi max and trying to focus on my books... I was supposed to read something else but so far I've only gotten to these two lol. I've been distracted a bit... Whatsapp messaging with friends, discord etc. I need to focus. Wish me luck! :)

It's the fourth hour of the readathon and it's soon 7 pm here in Finland. I will try to stay up later than usual reading. Pepsi helps. Music helps. If I eat too much I will get sleepy so better stick to pepsi max. LOL. I also have a lot of audiobooks waiting...

TA! :)
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200405964168377666.post-58959124368796606002021-10-23T01:10:00.001-07:002021-10-23T01:10:06.462-07:00Dewey's readathon -getting ready :)
Hello hello hello! :)

Today is the day! Dewey's 24-hour readathon starts at 3 pm Finnish time. YaY! There is only a few hours left before it starts. I have planned a little bit, I will bring out my pepsi max and try to decide where I will read. The number one option at the moment is my Danish reading chair. It is really comfy. My mom bought it for me last Christmas.

This is The Chair :) Here is my TBR:

If you are participating in the readathon I wish you good luck! I liked all five books. Very different, and that's a good thing. Now I just need to get over my mini reading slump... It is awful. Maybe these books will help me :)

I am also soon participating in two buddy reads:

Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre... by the Bronte sisters.

So I am in for some classics soon. LOL. It will be awesome. I love classics.

More later! :)
Cinders Boo http://www.blogger.com/profile/13382856189860864382noreply@blogger.com0
