Dewey's 24 hour readathon October 2017

Hi!

I'm on a little visit to the capital of my country... I came yesterday and leave tomorrow. I came to my hotel this afternoon. I took a nap and forgot about the readathon. I didn't think I would have time to read. But now my evening plans have been cancelled! So I can read! Too bad I only have two books to read... The one book is a Nancy Drew book from my childhood, it's in Swedish... the other book is a book named "Love letters to the dead " I got it yesterday from the book store...

Wish me luck!

Anne with an E

Hi there!

Lately I have been re-reading the Anne of Green Gables- series. I've already made it to the fourth book: Anne of Winde Poplars. It is the one where Anne and Gilbert exchange letters while they are both working in different locations while waiting for each other. There had been some back and forth between them, Anne couldn't quite decide what she wants. Now they are engaged, finally! I have been waiting for this since book one. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The thing I like about these books is the beautiful descriptions of the nature, the comedic adventures of both Anne and her friends. It's just such a beautiful series. The first time I read it, I was maybe 13... It left a lasting impression. I have been loving the series ever since.

Anne is such a whimsical, funny person. I always had a crush on Gilbert. I wanted red hair. My best friend in my childhood and I loved these books and wrote letters just like Anne and Diana.

"There was no possibility of taking a walk that day..." :)

Hi there folks!

What's up? As some of you might guess from the title of this post; I have finally started reading Jane Eyre again... When I studied English at the University of Stockholm, I read the whole book, almost. :P I was sooo intrigued by it and just couldn't get myself to continue after the "fire-incident". It was so good, so exciting... But for some reason, I wanted to "save the book for later"... So I never did finish it. But! Now I have started it again, from the very beginning... After I have read it I plan to start over with the "Thursday Next"-series, of which "The Eyre Affair" is the first part. I have indeed read that one before. It was really good. Goofy, funny, different... :) But, the REAL Jane Eyre is of course a Classic... Then, after I have finished the complete series of Thursday Next, I'm going to read "Wuthering Heights" and then a parody of it: "Wuthering Bites" :) LOL... Looks like I have my work cut out for me... :P

Anyhow... I just finished City of Bones a couple of days ago, it was really good! I don't know if I'm going to continue with the series, maybe someday. It was a bit too dark for me... And maybe, just maybe, I'm getting too old for YA... "GASP!" There, I said it. "Too old for YA"... Yikes! :(

An interesting book I've been reading is the biography of Freddie Mercury. For some reason I really like biographies... They're interesting! And not at all boring, as some people suggest or just believe, even though they haven't read a single biography. LOL. I'm thinking of heading to the Library today. Just cause. ;) I am a poor person, who has spent all her money this month on Barbies and Ponies (which I also collect, besides books of course...) :) So, to the library I (might) go! I'm sometimes very indecisive... It sucks. Well, soooooooooo... At the library I will try to find:

Cassandra Clare books
Stephenie Meyer's newest (which I will buy later, for sures...)
and maybe some other book that has been recommended to me, or a surprise! ;)

The library is a great place <3

I have noticed, since I'm a person who loves to drink caffeined drinks, sodas, not coffee, I have noticed that I think and write more and better when I haven't eaten too much (just like, a little) and drunk a lot of sodas with caffeine... Lol... That was just a sideremark... :P Other sodas are good for inspiration too, as long as they are tasty.

Speaking of Taystee... I'm re-reading OITNB, for the third time! I'm listening to it on audio and also reading at the same time, or sometimes just listening, because I know pretty much what is happening.

Finally, some interesting stuff about me. I did a test online, how big my vocabulary is in different languages... I got 30780 in Swedish, that is my native tongue. Then 16680 in Finnish, which is officially my second native tongue... Prettty weak, eh? Then, Spanish and German were at the level of a 10-year old child. Even though I haven't studied either... Then, the sugar at the bottom of the bowl (or whatever): ... Are you ready? ENGLISH 22200! Which is a lot, for me. More than my second native tongue. More than some of my friends on Facebook (who are American)... It just blew me away, and made me so so happy.  That confirmed in my mind, the fact that I did chose the right subject to study at the University :) Sorry, too much horn-blowing. It will stop now...

Have a great day! :)

Reader, I failed...

Hi guys!

Last time I wrote here I was going to participate in the readathon called 24 in 48 readathon... Well, life intervened. As it sometimes does. But now I'm back on track. Even though I read slowly, I did manage to read two short children's books last night, I usually read them every year, because I can read them in less than a half hour and I always need more books towards my Goodreads goal... lol I read:

Daniel i Rom

and

Lotta pรฅ brรฅkmakargatan

I read them both in Swedish. They are both some of the first books I have ever received and read as a child. ❤ Daniel i Rom I got from my aunt as a gift. It is about a little boy who is waiting for his Dad on the Spanish stairs in Rome, where they are supposed to meet. They are on holiday in Rome. Daniel's Dad is a pilot. Then Daniel gets whisked away by another Swedish guy and Daniel ends up representing Sweden in a program with singing children from all over the world. It was a good book to start my reading life.

Lotta is a little girl who wakes up in a foul mood one morning. She has had a nightmare. Her mother tells her to get dressed and come down for breakfast. The sweater Lotta is supposed to wear is one that Lotta really despises. It's itchy and uncomfortable. Lotta decides to throw the sweater in the trash after cutting holes in it. Then she decides to move out of the house. She is tired of being treated like a little girl and tired of people bossing her around. She walks over to the neighbour, an old lady who just happens to have a great place for Lotta to live in. It's a small attitc filled with interesting things. She rearranges the furniture, plays with the doll and other small treasures that the old lady gives her to play with. When night arrives, the world gets dark and scary, Lotta's  Dad comes and asks if Lotta wouldn't consider moving back home.

Well, sorry for the spoilers. I do recommend these books for children. Astrid Lindgren is one of my favorite authors from my childhood.

24 in 48 read a thon July 2017

Hi!

It's time. Finally. ๐Ÿ˜Š I love readathons. This time I'm participating in the readathon called

https://24in48.com

I have tried to participate earlier but my attempts have been feeble... I have a lot of books to choose from. Here is are some of my potential books tbr during the readathon...

What are you reading? Are you going to be participating in the readathon? I know that here in Finland people don't know a lot about readathons, I know I didn't, for the longest time. I'm really looking forward to this readathon. I wish I could be active and that I would be able to finish some of the books I'm currently reading.

More later! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Evening...

Hi!

I am a very slow and eclectic reader. I pick up a book, I put it down. I pick up another book, change my mind again... I have made a deal with myself. I will try not to be too hard on myself about this. I have been trying to read mostly books that I already own. Instead of buying more books all the time. If I start a series, I will only buy the next book in the series, not all of them, before I know I like them. That has happened at least one time. It was the True Blood series... I read the first one, really didn't care for it. But before I started the series, I already had purchased the entire series... One reason was that I love vampires... I have never watched the TV series. I'm sorry. ๐Ÿ˜Š

A few days ago, I started re-reading Gone with the Wind... Wow, it is going by faster this time! I just completely love this book! ๐Ÿ˜

Well,  it's getting late. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Good night!

Thursday, June 29, 2017

Hey there guys!

Sooo...

I've been quite lazy lately. It's time to start reading and writing! ๐Ÿ˜„

Tonight the weather here in my part of Finland is completely wonderful, I am sitting outside and trying to decide which books to read. Believe it or not, I actually borrowed a book from my Dad! He never lends his books to anyone! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I borrowed in fact two books. Two Agatha Christie books!

4.50 from Paddington

And Third girl

They seem really good. I started Third girl but "saved " it again for later... I always start saving books for later if they're really good. Hmpf. I guess I have a really bad case of fear of finishing a book ๐Ÿ˜‚ lol Well, I have to try to overcome that fear.

Readers, I am back! ๐Ÿ˜„

Hello there!

How are you all doing? Welcome back to my blog... Sorry I have been absent. I have yet again been fighting a reading slump. It's slowly getting better. I am on my summer vacation, just taking it easy. I have been trying to get more time to read but always something gets in the way...

A short update

I have so far this year read 14 books, so I am 3 books behind schedule but compared to last year, there has been significant progress. Some years I have read almost nothing, because of my illness and other life situations. If I get my self on a roll, I might try for 50 books this year.

Well, I am currently reading

City of Bones

Freddie Mercury

Torka aldrig tรฅrar utan handskar: sjukdomen

And starting

A Court of Thorns and Roses

Cress

Everything,  Everything

The best part of reading is relaxing and listening to music, forgetting all the wordly troubles and being able to decide what to read and when to read. My life would be much more boring if I didn't have books...

Recently I have been subscribing to an audio book service and I haven't been listening to them for a long time, but every time I get a new credit, I find something new to start reading and listening to... I always buy audio books that I already have the physical copy of. I want to read and listen.

Well,  that's all for now.

My ultimate TBR part one...

Hi there!

Since I have been watching many YouTube videos about books, I found this great idea for this blog. I will start writing more "tags" that I have borrowed from others who have either created the tag or have been tagged themselves on Booktube... Booktube is a community on YouTube where people post videos about books. My voice doesn't work, so I can not post videos... Today I am going to start with a list of books that I want to read during my life. I will post more lists if I forget or there's too many for one post. Here is my TBR for the rest of my life. ๐Ÿ˜Š these are in completely random order.

The Lord of the Rings

Jane Eyre

Wuthering Heights

Emma

Sense and sensibility

Persuasion

To Kill a Mockingbird

The Scarlet Letter

Every book ever written by Stephen King

Every book ever written by John Irving

Well... That's it for today. I will get back to the list later.

Good night!

Summer and books ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

Hi there!

I have been travelling lately a lot. I have not been able to read much. That has kind of pushed me into a reading slump... It sucks. But now I'm back home and after recovering from my trip, I have more time to read. YaY!

I went to Sweden to my cousin's wedding and before the wedding I popped by the book store... I could see the book store from my hotel room window! I just couldn't resist...

I bought City of bones... Which I have heard so many good things about on booktube. I started it and I have managed to read one chapter so far. I really like it. I just might get addicted to the series... ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well, now I need to read. More later.

Saturday, May 13, 2017

Hurray! :)

Hello there!

I'm back! I'm so sorry for my absence... Since I participated in the Dewey's 24hour Readathon, I have overcome my reading slump and finished a few more books.

First of all, I finished my first-ever John Green book:
Will Grayson, Will Grayson
It was okay, I was a little disappointed at the end. It could have given more closure... But that's only my opinion. It was about two Will Graysons and the one Will Grayson's best friend: Tiny. There were also two girl characters: Maura and Jane. It was sort of a mess, Everyone explaining the depth of their souls etc. I guess I'm either too old or too shallow for it. Or both. But I liked the parts about the musical that Tiny was directing. It was fun. I gave the book three stars on Goodreads...

Then I finished All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.
I guess I took too long to read it, I read it so slowly because I wanted to savor it and enjoy it. But then I got lost on the timeline and who was who etc. I might want to re-read it again later, a little faster. It was a really interesting book. I liked the two main characters. I don't think I've ever read a book with a main character is blind before. It was really different. One thing that bugged me was that the book kind of left a loose thread... I can't say it, it's a spoiler... But I think I would give the book 3.5 stars.

Lately I've been reading a lot about AIDS. I have read Philomena Lee and a Swedish book, by Jonas Gardell and now I'm reading the biography of Freddie Mercury.

Well... More later! :)

Dewey's 24-hour Readathon April 29th 2017

Dear readers,,,

Today, at 3 pm Finnish time, Dewey's Readathon is starting... The readathon starts at the exact same time all over the world. So we will be all reading together. It's so cool! My TBR is ever changing but here is a picture of my TBR how it looks right now...

Sooo... As you can see, I will be reading Twilight part one of the graphic novels, my first time ever reading a graphic novel... Then I'm also trying to read a play: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Then there's the collection of short-stories about Four (the guy from Divergent) and finally I have The Host, which I also own on Audiobook (CDs)...

I'm so excited! :) My TBR might change though... :)

Philomena Lee

Hello there!

I just finished a couple of days ago, this phenomenal book

Philomena Lee

And it was just sooo good. It is a true story. It's about a mother and her son. She becomes pregnant out of wedlock and to reconcile her sin she has to live and work in a convent with other unwed mothers and a bunch of nuns. She lives for three years at the convent and gets to see her son grow with the other orphans and mothers. Then comes the awful part. When her son is three years old, the nuns do what they have always done. They get guests from America who want to adopt Anthony  (Philomena's son) together with Mary, his best friend who then becomes his sister. The nuns force Philomena to sign the adoption papers and sell Anthony to an American family. Later on, Philomena starts looking for her son.

This is such an interesting book. I loved it sooo much! It was written in a way that was very gripping. I highly recommend it to you all.

That's all for now. ☺

Books are better than people

Hi!
I'm back! Suddenly, I've slipped back into a reading-slump... It's awful! I've been watching youtube -videos on how to get out of a reading-slump. Today I tried one trick, and it worked! I listened to one chapter of Orange is the new black... It's my third time reading that book. I usually try to read it once a year. This is consequently my third year of reading it :P There are a few other books I love to read every year, or at least I try to read them every year... Those include...

Anne of Greengables
Twilight
Harry Potter

Can't remember what the other ones are... Sorry! :( But seriously, I hate reading-slumps... They are the worst! I try to listen to music that will inspire me to read, I try to find a good spot at home to read... I've tried a lot of ways. Now I've decided to take the advice of some youtube -videos. Listen to audiobooks, choose smaller books, not force myself to read... Those are the tips Hailey in Bookland has on her channel... She is my favorite booktube person. :) I've been watching her videos for maybe a year. She is the BEST! :)

Today I've decided to "embrace the reading-slump" as Hailey puts it, and just take it easy and not stress about it... There's another readathon going on at Dewey's. It's the Pre-readathon #2. We're supposed to read 24 hours in a week! I have only managed 2 hours so far... On Monday, the first day of the Pre.readathon. Today I've decided to read as much as possible. It's difficult to count how long you've read when you listen to an audiobook 1,30 times the speed... LOL :P Well, I'll get a rough idea how long it has taken me... I better start timing my reading :P LOL

That's all for today! Have a great weekend! :)

Dewey's Pre-Readathon Readathon

Hello there!

Today I got an email from the goodreads group for Dewey's 24 hour readathon, that it is happening on the 29th of April... I just found out they're having a pre-readathon readathon... It's TODAY! In everyone's own time zone. The goal is to read 2 hours. Very low key, pretty doable. I am going to participate and since it's 11 a.m. here in Finland now, I can start whenever :P I haven't planned my TBR, because I just found out about it. I have decided to use an app that measures reading. It's really awesome. So, I'm going to take it easy, put some awesome music on and grab some mineral water and a book... This is a great opportunity to either continue, finish or start a lovely book <3

Let's see how it goes :) I love these kind of readathons...

Ta! :)

So many books, so little time...

Howdy!

What's up? I just realised that I have actually lost track of some of the plots in the books I'm currently reading. It's not that I confuse the plots but I simply forget what's going on. I am so ashamed of myself. I was such a multi tasking reader until recently when I continued with some of the books I'm reading. I didn't remember the details, all of the characters and so on. Oh dear... What should I do, what should I read? How many books can I read simultaneously? I am starting to get old... lol... I turn 37 in May... Oh boy... Well, I will not let this get me down. I will just focus on 2-3 books at a time. I might have to start all over with some of my books... I am truly hopeless... Of all the books I am currently reading, I will choose 2-3 books to concentrate on. These will be... drumroll...

Les Misรฉrables

All the light we cannot see

Scarlet

Bonus:

Holding up the universe

Hi. My name is Cindy and I am eclectic. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hi there!

I just came up with a fantastic phrase how to describe my reading style. It's eclectic! Nothing goes together, it's random and irregular! Most of the time I just pick up the book that I feel like reading. Even though I have 15 more that I am currently reading... I'm not monogamous when it comes to books. I am not organised or precise. I don't follow rules or guidelines well... That's why I have a hard time trying to complete reading challenges etc. Well, maybe I should be more hard on myself. Be more organised. I certainly will try. But I need to keep my freedom. Not just too much of it. Lol...

P. S. Tomorrow I am going to the hair dresser! YaY!!!

The books I'm currently reading...

Hello...

My reading slump is almost over. YAY! :) I'm still receiving one credit a month on my audible account, but I don't usually find the "zen" to listen to them... lol I have decided to fix that. Also, I have decided to concentrate on only a few books at a time. I usually start a billion books and end up "saving" the good ones until a later, more appropriate time. BUT! Now I want to read and devour all the great books. I have read OITNB (Orange is the new black) twice, now I have it as an audiobook too, Happiness! :) It's easier to listen to a book I've read before. Now I'm listening and reading it for the third time. My goal is to read it at least once a year. I've got a much bigger TBR of books I want to re.read every year, but I'm thinking of reading some only every second or every third year. Some I always read, almost every year, are:

Anne of Greengables

Sweet Valley Twins 1-4

Nancy Drew "Buried Secrets"

These are some of my favorites from my childhood. Other books I'm planning to start re-reading more often, every year, every second year or every third year are:

Sophie's World

Les Miserables

Twilight -series

Harry Potter -series

The list goes on and on... :P

The books in the picture are the books I'm currently reading for the first time. I've heard about some of them through book blogs/booktube, others are sequels and then there's the most interesting "I just found this book by mistake" -book: "Holding up the Universe". It's sooo amazing! I like it because the main character is overweight and struggling. I'm always overweight and struggling... :(

Well, more later! :)

Saturday, March 4, 2017

Hi there!

Well...

I have been watching videos on YouTube, about books. Booktube, as we call it. I got a little spark of inspiration from one of my favorite booktubers, Hailey in Bookland. I watched her videos about her bookish resolutions. I came up with a fantastic idea! It seems it is a good thing to post regularly and have some kind of system to it. I thought that I would post more reviews, about the books I have read. I have a bullet journal, where I plan my posts for this blog. I'll have to plan a little, to get everything set, but I will try to post at least twice a week and one of the posts would be a review. What do you think about that? ๐Ÿ˜Š

By the way, I am currently reading The Lord of the Rings. Just started it yesterday.

Holding up the universe

Hello there!

My new favorite book, that I'm reading is holding up the universe. I really love this book. The chapters are short, it makes you read faster, because usually for me, if the chapter is really long, I get discouraged and take a "brake" which sometimes can last for months... lol "Holding up the Universe" is a really fun book. It's about this curvy/big girl whose mother died when she was young and the girl starts to eat, trying to escape reality. Now she has lost some of the weight and is back in school. Then there is this guy who has a disorder that makes him unable to recognize people. Like, he looks at a face and has no clue who it is. Even his family members are strangers. He usually identifies people from their voice, hair-do etc. Well, I haven't read much further than this and I don't want to post spoilers :P It's just a very good book. I've become interested in books that take place in school. Weird. Maybe I'm trying to relive my lost childhood. :) lol

Reading is the best. :)

Helmet Reading Challenge 2017 TBR

Hi there!

Here is my TBR for the Helmet Reading Challenge 2017. My TBR is on Goodreads...

My TBR for the Helmet Reading Challenge 2017

It's constantly changing, though. I can't stick to one book, I love reading many books and change my reading goals. What can I say? I'm a weird reader ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lately I have been re-reading my "old " favorites. For example

Les Misรฉrables

And

Twilight

Les Misรฉrables is one of my most favorite books of all time. It's simply a magical story. So beautiful. I read it in Swedish, because my French is not good enough. And Twilight I have read five times before. It is "easy reading ". I know the story by heart. It is not quite like the movie. Of course. Nobody ever gets the movie right. Lol...

Well, that's all for now.

Have a great new week!

Reading, I love it!

Hello there!

Wow, it took a looong time to get over my reading slump... I hope it doesn't come back anytime soon... I have an audiobook account and every month I get one book for the one credit I get each month. Yesterday I bought one of my all-time favorite books.

Orange is the new black

It's about a lady who committed a crime ten years ago and finally, the past has caught up on her and she gets named by her ex.girlfriend in court and so she is charged with drug-money smuggling... She ends up in Danbury women's prison and gets 15 months. Her name is Piper Kerman, and this is a book written by her about her time in prison. I've read it twice before and now I'm listening to the audiobook and reading while listening.

I can relate to this book because I was in a hospital for eight months when I was 17. It was a mental hospital, the ward was for youth. Everyday I think about my experience there. It was really something :P I love Orange is the New Black because it's such a interesting book and it touches my heart. The way the ladies take care of each other is wonderful.

I'm also counting this towards my Helmet reading challenge

It fits into several categories, for example:

36: a memoir
18: there are no less than four words in the title...

I love this challenge!

Helmet Reading Challenge 2017

Hello there!

Lately I have been participating in a reading challenge here in Finland. It's a group on Facebook and here's a link to the page in English

Helmet Reading Challenge

It goes on for a year, there are 50 categories and then, next year, there'll be 50 new categories. Some people want to read 50 books, one for each category, but you can also use one book for many categories.

I have read four books so far this year. I don't put pressure on myself to read 50 books, I can use one book for a couple of categories. I have read:

The diving bell and the butterfly

A place called here

All the birds in the sky

Cruel crown

The diving bell and the butterfly fits at least category number one. The name of the book is pretty. It is truly one of my favorite books. It's just so beautiful.

A place called here fits the category 43, I have been thinking about reading it for a long time. It was okay. Not my most favorite book. But I really like Cecelia Ahern's books in general.

All the birds in the sky fits category 29, for one. The main character can do something I would like to learn. She is basically a witch lol. She communicates with nature. That would be cool.

Then, we have Cruel crown... It fits category number 10, among others. I think the cover is very beautiful. I really couldn't understand or get into the world described in the book, but it was kind of a good book.

Well, thanks for reading my blog.

Books are my life

Hello!

Oh dear, my reading slump is still continuing. It feels like there is nothing I can do about it. I have tried many ways of getting rid of it. It's a struggle. I hope to get rid of it soon. ๐Ÿ˜„

Since I am so behind on my Goodreads goal, I have been reading many short books. I've already started many really short books. For example

Girl, Interrupted  which I have read before... and

The diving bell and the butterfly  I've read that one before too.

They are both very good. I'm thinking of writing more about the books I have read when I was studying English at the University of Stockholm. After all, they were important then, for my studies. Boy, I loved studying at the University... I was young and wild back then. Now I'm just young lol. ๐Ÿ˜

A New Year, A New (Bookish) Start :)

Howdy!

This year has been very good so far, at least when it comes to reading... I have raised my goal, I will try to read 100 books this year. I know, it's crazy. I'm such a slow reader and get stuck in these really long reading slumps... Well, let's see. I have read two books so far this year. I did start them last year, but I finished them in 2017. I read:

All the birds in the sky

Cruel crown

I don't know what's my problem these days. It takes a really lot for me to say a book is good, these days... I've become so picky and critical. In the "good old days" I enjoyed every book I read, very much. It had to be a really bad book for me not to enjoy it. I don't know what's the matter with me. But it is also a good thing, I can be more objective, not so "easily pleased". I don't know really what's gotten into me. LOL. Well, I enjoyed the ending to both books. And the first short story in Cruel Crown was really good. I kept imagining a completely different setting that probably was the intention. For some reason I pictured something like Game of Thrones... Weird. :P By the way, I've started GoT two times, now I'm stuck and probably have to start over lol. I'm such a scatter brain.

I've found a new app for tracking my reading, but I can't really track books I've already started. Yesterday I put one of the books I'm currently reading in the app and it suddenly said that I will probably finish the book in 10 minutes. There is still over 300 pages left of the book :P Haha...

Well, it's very good otherwise, it tracks how fast you read...

Have a great Wednesday!!! :)
